What’s at the top of the ladder?
When I graduated college we were in the midst of the "Wall Street" movie years. Gordon Gecko was telling us that greed was good. Get a degree, work hard for a bunch of years, tow the company line, and work your way up the corporate ladder.
It really got me thinking about what was at the top of that ladder. Is it like rainbow that has a pot of gold? My daughter always tells me that we should see what's at the end of the rainbow, but we can never quite find that pot of gold.
So, you work for 30 years, retire with a bunch of money – not as much now I guess, and hopefully your health is okay from the vertical assent that you can enjoy some time and money. But what if it isn't? Good question.
I find it outstanding to see people starting to realize that there is a better way. There are so many people embracing the "free world" of self employment. Gone are the days of security in a "corporate job." Security is what you make of it. There are a group of men and women that have embraced this change. Recently Kevin interviewed Gary Barkalow regarding calling and passion in our lives. Gary is working with people who are looking to discover their calling or passion, to live the life God has intended them to live. More evidence that there really is a better, freer way.
Is the work easy, no way. But the rewards can be awesome. Imagine having the freedom to decide how to spend your time. Time is one thing we all have, but we all lose it at the same rate…it's just what we decide to do with it.
So my challenge to everyone is to think about how they want to live their life and how they want to spend the time they have.
I have my vision, my passion, and I place my trust in God to open the doors and direct the path.
