One exercise I did year at year end was to take an inventory of all the books that I had read for 2011. When I was young, I was not the reader that I am now. Being outside and active was my life, not in reading books. Over the past 12-18 months i have morphed into a very active reader.
When I was young I loved to watch mystery shows on TV, read mystery books, and always enjoyed the Ellery Queen mystery minute that one of the local radio stations would play every morning. I enjoyed the suspense, the intrigue and really trying to figure out "who dun it".
My favorite show of all time was watching the Sherlock Holmes movies on Sunday afternoon. Especially the movies with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. I still have some of them on tape somewhere in the basement.
When I graduated college we were in the midst of the "Wall Street" movie years. Gordon Gecko was telling us that greed was good. Get a degree, work hard for a bunch of years, tow the company line, and work your way up the corporate ladder.
It really got me thinking about what was at the top of that ladder. Is it like rainbow that has a pot of gold? My daughter always tells me that we should see what's at the end of the rainbow, but we can never quite find that pot of gold.
